5’10″ Redwood Mini-Disc

Buy$ 2400

The newest board to be completed is this little 5’10″ beauty made of recycled old growth redwood deck boards and recycled doug-fir/cedar wedges.  The fin is a rising sun motif, with alternating colors on both sides of the fin. The nail holes were inlayed with the heads of copper tacks, to give a really unique and beautiful look amidst the old-growth redwood. The board was glassed in Entropy “One” Bio Resin, with two layers of 4oz cloth on deck and a single layer on the bottom. The top deck has an open coat, exposing the weave and shaving off weight. The board also has cork rails, a red abalone shark inlay in the tail, and a glass leash loop.  The board weighs in at a slight ten pounds. Dimensions are 5’10″ x 21″ x  2 5/8″.

Longboard finished!

The latest board finished at the Ventana Shop. I explained most of it in an earlier post, but to refresh your memories – the redwood came from a deck in Boulder Creek, it is clear grain, most likely old growth that came from the Santa Cruz mountains and looks amazing. The nail holes were filled and then capped with brass nail heads, and it looks really cool. The burl tail block was driftwood found on a local beach, and the abalone inlays came from a local abalone farm. The Santa Cruz Waves logo was drawn in pencil per request of the new owner. It weighs in at 22lbs and looks like it will fly down the line. Glassed in Entropy Bio Resin.

The Redwood Glider

The Glider is built for forward trim surfing, quick turning, and down-the-line effortless speed.  It can be ridden in two foot soup, or overhead surf.

The deck is built from scrap poplar, and some very special redwood.  The redwood was given to us by our good friend Alberto (aka Birdo).  Alberto cleared a small grove of trees up in Bonny Doon some 30 years ago to help his godfather build a workshop.  The leftover wood was milled, stacked, and left to cure until now.
