Curly Redwood Handplane
Buy: $100
This little handplane is made of curly Redwood and a Padauk stringer. The wood was salvaged from an old Victorian house here in SC. Many of the old buildings here in town were built using old-growth Redwood timbers, so whenever people remodel their homes we try to get the old wood and give it a new life. This little snub-nosed handplane has an abalone inlay on the bottom, and a brass fish inlay on top. Single deep concave on bottom for good control while in the pocket. Includes a neoprene hand strap made from recycled wetsuits.

Building a sign
We made a sign yesterday from a piece of redwood that was given to us, and some scrap pine. the grain on the redwood is simply amazing. Stop by and check it out!
Abalone Inlays

During our building process we like to incorporate many small touches that set the boards apart from others. We use quite a bit of abalone for our inlays, and they are all done by hand. We select our shells from a local abalone farm, carve them by hand, and inlay them in various places in the boards. These shots are of the 6’6″ Single fin, down rail board.
agave!
Scored some agave the other day! It takes a while to dry out the stock, but we will shape it into a surfboard one day!
Ventana in the News
We’re in the press in Europe! The German lifestyle magazine Munich Magazine did a feature story on us and our boards! As the name says the magazine is based in Munich, the landlocked capital of Bavaria, home to the Oktoberfest and a world-famous surf spot in its own right, the standing wave of the Eisbach. Who knows, maybe one of these days one of our boards might be shredding through some glacial water straight from the Alps…
Here is a quick look at the article. The photos were shot by my brother Sebastian, who came to Santa Cruz last December to produce the images and the artwork for our new website. You can read his account of the photo production here on his blog: Sebastian’s “California Dreaming” post
7’9″ Widow Maker (Black)
SOLD
This is a special edition “black” 7’9″ , the deck and the rails are stained, and it looks like no other board I’ve built so far. It’s 22 1/8″ wide, 2.75″thick, with a 7″ center fin and two 2″ side-bites (all glass-on) set up as a “widow-maker”. The bottom and deck are Oak ply, the rails are cork. The nose and tail (half-moon), as well as the leash/vent cups are Walnut and Padauk, with Abalone accents. Plenty of entry and exit rocker, this shape performs REALLY well in head high + surf.

8’3″ Mini Tanker BIO RESIN

Just finished this 8’3″ mini-longboard. It’s 21.5″ wide, 3″ thick, fairly parallel rails, blunt nose, and a wide square tail with a single glass-on hatchet fin. Birch decks; salvaged old-growth redwood tail, vent/leash, and fin; and a heck-of-a-lot of fun packed inside . This board is also glassed using Entropy Super-Sap Bio-resin, an epoxy made of sustainable by-products from other manufacturing processes. This is just one more way to reduce our impact and ride greener surfboards.
