5’10 Single Fin Disc (SOLD)

Buy: $2400  SOLD SOLD SOLD

This little 5’10″ disc was built from reclaimed curly redwood, vertical grain redwood, and cedar. The wood for the decks, frames, and fin are all recycled, the only “virgin” products used were the resin, cloth, and cork rails. This board looks stunning! The dramatic grain in the center pieces, the checkered stringers, abalone inlay, and “coral snake” fin, make this board a truly unique piece of art. It was glassed with Entropy Bio Resin, with 2x4oz on deck and a single 4oz layer on bottom. The fin is super flexy – the grain of the wood coupled with the Bio Resin make it very responsive and active. This board was going to be on display at a chiropractic office in San Francisco, but the Doctor who runs the office fell in love with it and bought it on the spot! I guess we’ll just have to build another one for his office…

5’10″ Rising Sun Single Fin Disc

This sweet little 5’10″ disc is the latest board to leave the shop. The sun rays are reclaimed redwood and pine, the “ocean” is also redwood, with a sun made from a burl of a tree I have not been able to identify! The 8″ single fin is redwood burl with an incredible color pattern. The top deck is all reclaimed redwood, you can see old staple marks in two of the strips, which look amazing in the old redwood. A knot hole in the top deck was filled with a piece of jade from the Ventana wilderness, Big Sur. The rails on the top deck have redwood circle inlays, with a black abalone inlay in the nose. 5’10″x21″x2 5/8″, glassed with Entropy Bio Resin. This board is sweet!

6’6″ ‘Sunset’ board

SOLD SOLD SOLD

This is an amazing board! The bottom features a sunset over the ocean motive, with redwood and pine sun beams, redwood sapwood and heartwood as the last light over the reflecting ocean. Ok, I might be going a bit far out there with that, but really, it is a stunning board. The redwood used was all salvaged from a pile of off-cuts from a house build in nearby Bonny Doon, and it turned out beautifully. The pine gives it a wonderful accent in color, both having rich luster and depth. The redwood single fin is from a piece of redwood burl found nearby, and is stunning, with bands of black and “birds’ eye” patterning throughout. The sun is the center of a big redwood branch that was in a fire pit on the beach, but when looked at closely has amazing grain circles and colours. The tail block is from the same branch. The top deck is completely different, with redwood and pine bands along a redwood and poplar stringer. The leash cup was turned by hand on the lathe, and both it and the vent are scrap bubinga. The rails are cork, with inlays of redwood circles along the sides, and glistening green pieces of abalone in the nose and in the tail block. Truly an amazing board.

9’2″ Cedar Log (Sold)

SOLD

This 9’2″ Cedar longboard is the same shape that I ride on a daily basis.  23 wide, with a squared tail.  The log works great in anything from shin to overhead surf (tested in both).  The cedar is extremely light and features a beautiful grain that will hypnotize between sets.  Poplar stringers run through the deck in a nod to the classics.  The nose stays wide, but pulls in to reduce the chance of catching it during tight turns.  The rails are gentle throughout the board and turned slightly hard in the tail.  The single hatchet fin (cedar and poplar) is great for small days, and will hold a line when the surf gets bigger.  A great board for any rider.  If you want to test ride this shape, drop us a line and we will go for a surf.

5’10″ Redwood Single fin (box) Egg

Buy: $1800   SOLD SOLD SOLD

The newest board here at Ventana is a 5’10″ Egg, 21″ wide, 2 3/4″ thick, concave nose to vee in the tail. The single fin is in a standard Longboard box, to allow different fin options, and to make travel easy. The deck and bottom are from the Redwood we salvaged from a deck in nearby Boulder Creek (see earlier posts) and scrap Cedar from past boards. A simple vent plug and glass-on leash loop make the board look incredibly sleek. We will post more pictures of the fin and bottom in the next few days. Check back soon.

6’1″ Recycled Cedar

SOLD

The latest shortboard to be completed at Ventana is this beautiful 6’1″ Thruster. The decks, fins, and tail block are made from recycled Cedar planks, and the whole thing is glassed with Entropy SuperSap 100/1000 Bio-resin. This board has a convex bottom in the nose fading to a Vee in the tail.

Weighing in at 9lbs 15oz, this is the lightest board we have built so far. One of the weight-saving features this board has is an “open coat” on the deck, meaning that there aren’t any filler or gloss coats on deck. The rough texture of the glass is both aesthetically pleasing, as well as being functional by saving weight and providing a bit of grip for the wax. The vent and leash cups are also Cedar, with maple blocks underneath as support. An abalone fish is inlayed in the tail block.

4’10″ Recycled Redwood Grom Board

SOLD

This is an absolutely gorgeous Redwood Grom Board (for kids), built from recycled plywood interior structure, recycled/reclaimed Redwood for the decks, fins, and vent plugs, and cork off-cuts from other boards. It was glassed with Entropy Super Sap 100/1000 Bio-resin with 4oz cloth. The Leash loop is made of brass and is built into the interior structure for strength. The Redwood slices used for the deck were from off-cuts from another board, a wall panel in an old Victorian mansion, and a roofing beam that was covered in tar. From the pile of “waste wood” you would have never guessed that this could be so incredibly beautiful when finished off.

9’4″ Redwood Longboard

Buy:$2600    SOLD SOLD SOLD

The newest longboard to be completed is a beautiful old-school shaped Redwood/Fir/Poplar log. Rounded belly all the way through with a bit of “flip” in the last few inches of the tail. The board is 22.5″ wide, 3″ thick with pinched rails, and weighs in at a comfortable 22 pounds. She is a beauty – the redwood came from a local ranch just north of town, and comes to life between the green poplar stringers. The knots have been filled with medallions of old-growth birds eye redwood, scraps from other boards. As always, the interior structure is made of recycled plywood, as we try to maximize our use of wood to reduce our waste.
