Learn about our surfboards and custom orders!
This stunning, custom board was commissioned for a customer in Kona, Hawaii. It's a stunning work of art and will ride smooth and fast in chest high to overhead waves.
The subtle, sun rays on the bottom deck are made of reclaimed redwood from a historic house in the Beach Hill neighborhood in Santa Cruz, CA. The "water" under the sunburst is of curly redwood from a local source.
The multi-colored sun and the nose block with abalone inlay are made from very special pieces of Douglas fir from the hull of the Western Flyer, considered by many to be the most famous fishing boat in the world. John Steinbeck, Ed "Doc" Ricketts and crew sailed this 77-foot sardine boat into the Sea of Cortez in Baja California, Mexico in 1940. The following year, Steinbeck published his book, The Log from the Sea of Cortez, about the adventure. Learn more about this amazing boat and Ventana's use of its wood.
The top deck is made of the same reclaimed redwood found on the bottom deck. The stringer is made of reclaimed spruce, Honduras mahogany and Indian rosewood from Santa Cruz Guitar Company offcuts. The vertical stripes are mahogany guitar offcuts.
The leash cup and vent plug are also made of mahogany from Santa Cruz Guitar Company.
The thruster fins are glassed on and made of redwood burl driftwood found at Seacliff State Beach in Aptos, CA after a 2017 El Niño storm.
The rails are made of cork which is more resistant to dings, and there are two sheets of 4 ounce fiberglass on top and one on bottom. The epoxy is Entropy Super Sap 100 bio-resin which is up to 40% tree sap and is very strong and light.
All nail holes and knots from the reclaimed boards have been filled with brass using a secret process.
As with all Ventana Surfboards, the interior is glassed and sealed, as well.
This board is hollow, lightweight and will ride as great as it looks. Given the uniqueness of each side, it's like two art pieces in one.
Made in Santa Cruz, California by master craftsman Martijn Stiphout.
Dimensions: 6’2″ x 19.5″ x 2.5″
